Q: When/where is anime club?

A: We have our officer meeting from 6-7 PM on Wednesdays in Stuart 104. Screenings are held directly after this from 7-10 PM.
Q: Can anyone join UCJAS?

A: Absolutely! We require no commitments from members and welcome anyone for as much time as they want to spend.
Q: I can't stay for the whole three hours of screening. Is it weird to show up late or leave early?

A: No, this is very common. While appointed officers tend to stay until the end, you are welcome to come and leave with any frequency.
Q: I have obligations during club and can't come this quarter. How can I keep up with what is happening?

A: The best way to do this is through the weekly notes that are sent out to Ninjas and through the summaries that the Secretary sends to all club members at the end of the week. If you would like to get involved with an event despite not being able to come to meetings in-person, email the club president and arrange for some other method.
Q: What do you watch at screenings?

A: UCJAS tries to show a mix of genres - romance, action, comedy, sci-fi. Anime isn't just about senseless violence or nudity; there's some good storytelling in there! Officers pick two of the shows that we watch, in order to get a balance of types and eras of anime. The third and fourth shows are selected by members through a vote.
Q: Can you show Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha, etc?

A: UCJAS actively avoids the most classic and well-known of anime series because (a) many if not most people in club have already seen them, (b) they may have already been shown in club, and (c) they are often extremely long series. We do not show anything already screened within the last 4 years or anything that is currently airing; otherwise, some devoted club members would get bored at watching the same thing over again! For the most part, we try to limit the shows picked to those with only one or two seasons (13-26 episodes) so that we can all have that cozy feeling of watching the end of a series by finals time.
Q: Why are screenings so long?

A: The screenings are long so that we can show a lot of titles and find something for everyone. You don't have to stay for the whole time--just come and see whatever seems interesting. Don't worry if you miss some showings or pass up on a series. The point is to enjoy yourself!
Q: I want to come, but I'm worried I would be out of place

A: If you feel intimidated by club members or want to get to know people better, come to officers' meetings! We talk individually with new members at this and are more likely to learn about you. If you feel like you don't know anyone in club or want to become friends with appointed officers, you can also come talk with us directly, before or during screenings. We love to become friends with members of club, but sometimes we have too many responsibilities to reach out to each person ourselves. Everyone in the front row of desks at Stuart is an officer, so just come talk to us!
Q: How can I help out at or attend uchi-con?

Q: I am not on the listhost (either officers or general) but I want to be

A: The quickest way to get on the listhost is to talk to one of the appointed officers in club screenings. If for some reason you cannot make it to screenings, send us an email from the contact page, and we will add you to the listhost.
Q: How can I remove myself from the listhost?

A: If you are a student at UChicago, go to lists.uchicago.edu and login. Look through your listhosts on the left side, click on UCJAS, and click on the Unsubscribe option. If you are not a Uchicago student, contact us and we will remove you manually.
